Kill all of them and afterwards head deeper into the ruins. Your objective is destroying 10 poison boxes. The first 4 can be found inside the ruins.
After a half dozen playthroughs and starts and doing that quest every time there was never a problem in finding all ten boxes. The quest radar shows you exactly where each of the boxes is when you get close enough. Be sure to explore every inch of the ruins and the red legion camps.
